Evidence Session: Aligning Trade Rules to Meet Climate and Environment Goals
The APPG for Trade & Export Promotion will hold a joint Parliamentary Evidence Session with the APPG on the Environment on Tuesday 12th October between 10:30 am and 12:00 midday (BST).
Our joint evidence session will be Chaired by Baroness Nosheena Mobarik CBE, and our panel will be moderated by Anthony Browne, MP for South Cambridgeshire.
Our panel of experts includes:
- Simon Manley (UK Permanent Mission to UN & WTO in Geneva)
- Dr Carolyn Deere Birkbeck (Director of the Forum on Trade, Environment & the SDGs at the Geneva Trade Platform)
- Shaun Spiers (Executive Director Green Alliance)
This evidence session will hear what work is occurring internationally reviewing global trade rules alignment with environment and climate objectives, and what the UK can learn from this.
We will turn to our UK bilateral trade rules and our climate, environment, sustainability and biodiversity goals asking whether our UK trade rules are enhancing or damaging our climate objectives. We will hear solutions to reducing friction and ensuring trade is a net contributor to green objectives.
