In this online event, hosted by the Environment APPG, panellists will discuss trade priorities for a net zero future and how the UK can demonstrate leadership on environmental policy through trade deals to improve environmental standards around the world.

The meeting will hear short contributions from the following speakers, followed by short responses from Parliamentarians:

Professor Marie-Claire Cordonier Segger, Leverhulme Trust Visiting Professor, University of Cambridge and Senior Director, Centre for International Sustainable Development Law (CISDL)

Dr Markus W. Gehring, Director of Studies, Hughes Hall, University of Cambridge and Lead Counsel for Trade and Investment, CISDL

Professor Ilaria Espa, Professor of International Economic Law at USI Lugano, Senior Research Fellow, World Trade Institute and Lead Counsel for Natural Resources, CISDL

Their remarks will touch on: crafting UK trade treaties in the global green economy, advancing climate change priorities in the UK-EU TCA and the UK-US Negotiations, and promoting renewable energy transitions and carbon price commitments. Above all, the event will provide a forward-looking brief on what trade deals might mean for the UK's broader climate ambitions.
