Planning for climate, nature and communities parliamentary roundtable

Date: Wednesday 26th February 2025, 3pm - 4pm
Location: Houses of Parliament
Speakers: Andrew Pakes MP (Chair); other speakers tbc
Planning reform is a key priority for Keir Starmer’s government. The upcoming Planning and Infrastructure Bill is set to transform the UK’s planning processes and is likely to have a particular focus on simplifying the sign-off process for renewable energy projects.
Building new infrastructure, like wind turbines, solar farms and pylons, will be essential to decarbonising the energy system and meeting the government's 2030 clean power mission. Yet these developments must happen in harmony with the natural environment, essential itself in tackling climate change, and in partnership with local people. Pragmatic solutions and grown-up debates will be essential to balancing these priorities and ensuring planning reform protects nature, invests in communities, and boosts the supply of renewable energy.
This private parliamentary roundtable will be a forum for discussing how MPs and peers from across parties can work together to promote this balanced approach and secure joined-up outcomes that deliver for the environment. We will hear from expert speakers and aim to identify areas of consensus where attendees could work together to promote ambitious and positive outcomes.
This event is open to parliamentary members only. Email appg@green-alliance.org.uk to RSVP and for further details.
